Advanced Technique Seminar
*Sunday, February 19th 2012

New York Shorin Ryu Karate Club will be hosting a seminar featuring Master Mark Kline, a world-renowned expert and teacher. The seminar will be geared towards advanced practitioners who are interested in deeper insights into the underlying principles of martial arts movements.

Techniques will be refined and examined in the following 3 ways:
- How to use pressure points to enhance effectiveness
- How the “mind” or “intention” can be utilized to intensify the effects of techniques
- How using sound can focus the body’s internal energy into a technique.

The information to be presented in this seminar is intended to “open the door” to deeper study of your art, no matter what style you practice.

2nd Bunkai Seminar For Shorin Ryu Kata

*Sunday, December 5th 2010
*Sunday, March 6th 2011

You are invited to participate in a seminar/practice session for Shorin Ryu kata/bunkai. This seminar is tailored to “kata lovers” who want to delve deeper into the meaning of their forms. Several kata sequences drawn from Matsubayashi Ryu kata, ranging from basic to advanced, will be broken down into effective and practical self defense techniques. These techniques will be demonstrated and explained with hands on practice drills.
Shorin Ryu kata, the essence of our art, is an encyclopedia of movement containing an inexcusable variety of practical self-defense techniques, many are not well understood. Exploring these techniques and learning how to make them work will introduce new insight into the language of kata adding beauty and depth to your art.
Seminar participants will learn 2 man application drills emphasizing new insights that will open doors to deeper understanding of the motions they practice daily.
The seminar is open to all ranks and all schools. Any and all interested parties are welcome.

Law Enforcement/Security

At NY Shorin Ryu we welcome anyone who works in Law Enforcement or Security, whether they have a martial arts background or not.  Our self defense techniques are helpful in law enforcement/security situations where seizing control of an attacker without applying deadly or maiming force is required. Many of our 2 man drill exercises will enable law enforcement/security personnel to gain knowledge of techniques that use vital points throughout the body  to cause pain and dysfunction without inflicting permanent damage.  Brute force or super speed is not required, only knowledge, focus and practice. This is ideal for anyone who works in a job where there is a possibility for close quarter, hand to hand self-defense situations.
